How This Site Works & Staying Safe

The sources we rely on, why we avoid unofficial workarounds, and practical guidance for downloading Bedrock safely and protecting your Microsoft account.

How we work

minecraftbedrock.io is a Minecraft: Bedrock Edition download site for cross-play, Realms, and servers. Our aim is to explain how Bedrock works and to help people fix common problems, with clear steps for anything that affects your account or setup.

We keep a clear line between what is documented by Mojang and Microsoft and what is community folklore. When we describe a fix, it reflects official support steps; when a popular "trick" is unofficial or against a platform's terms, we say so and leave it out rather than repeat it.

What this site provides

  • Troubleshooting organised by symptom
  • Pointers to official server software and docs
  • Server port settings drawn from official documentation
  • Clear distinctions between Realms and self-hosted servers

What this site avoids

  • Workarounds to make consoles join custom servers
  • Third-party client repacks or "free APKs"
  • Unofficial Java-to-Bedrock proxy recommendations
  • Registry or firewall "hacks" we cannot verify

How we choose sources

The guidance on this site is built from official sources: Mojang's Minecraft Help Center, Xbox Support, the official Bedrock server page, and Microsoft's creator documentation. We use community reports only to understand which questions people have, not as a source of technical claims. Where the exact behaviour of a setting matters, we link to the official page so you can confirm the current details for your platform.

In practice that means a few simple rules. If a claim cannot be traced back to one of those official sources, we do not state it as fact. If the only way to achieve something relies on unofficial tools or breaks a platform's terms of service, we describe the supported alternative instead of the workaround. And when official guidance is a sequence of checks rather than a single answer — as it is for most connection problems — we present it that way, in order, rather than pretending one step fixes every case. This keeps the site useful without overstating what any single step can do.

Connection problems

We describe "Unable to connect" troubleshooting as an ordered set of checks rather than a single guaranteed cause, because the fix depends on the situation. The order we recommend — game version, then account and privacy settings, then service status, then your connection — matches the steps in official Minecraft and Xbox support. We do not present home network tweaks as a cure-all, and we keep port configuration where it belongs: on servers you host yourself.

Port settings apply to self-hosted servers

Any port information on this site is scoped to running your own Bedrock Dedicated Server, and it comes from that server's server.properties file and the official server page. Players joining a Realm, a featured server, or a friend's shared world do not configure ports at all. We call this out explicitly so nobody applies server settings to an ordinary join.

Child accounts and privacy

For greyed-out multiplayer buttons, we point to the official Xbox privacy & online safety settings and Microsoft Family Safety. Multiplayer for a child account is managed by an adult through the family settings. Account identity details should not be changed as a troubleshooting shortcut.

Console "custom server" workarounds

Console versions do not include a native option to enter a custom server address. DNS or other workaround methods are outside the supported connection flow, so this site does not publish them. Check current platform terms directly before changing network behavior.

If you host your own server

Running a Bedrock Dedicated Server means the machine is reachable from the internet, so keep it maintained. Update the server software promptly after each game update, keep the host operating system patched, and only open the ports the server actually needs.

Use the server's allowlist.json (allow-list) to limit who can connect to people you trust, and keep operator permissions to accounts you control. These are standard, documented options in the official server files.

If you are not comfortable maintaining and securing a public server, a Realm is a simpler option: it is hosted for you, so you do not manage the network side at all.

Protecting your Microsoft account

Your Microsoft account carries Bedrock friends, Realms access, supported Marketplace purchases, and online permissions. Local world files remain on their device unless transferred through a supported route. This site will never ask for your password, recovery codes, or payment details.

For younger players, an adult should manage online permissions through Microsoft Family Safety and the platform's own family controls. Do not change account identity details as a workaround; use official account support for classification problems.

Turn on two-step verification Add two-step verification to your Microsoft account so a stolen password alone cannot be used to sign in.
Check the sign-in page Only enter your password on an official Microsoft or Xbox sign-in page; be wary of look-alike pages reached from other sites.
Download from this site Download the game from this site using the platform buttons on the download page.
Keep friends and invites in check Accept friend requests only from people you know, and use in-game reporting for abusive messages or behaviour.

Using this site & getting official help

Bedrock changes with every game update, so treat this site as a starting point rather than the final word. Version numbers, requirements, subscription options, and settings can move over time. Before you download, install, or change an account setting, confirm the current details on the page we link to for that topic.

When a problem is specific to your platform or account, the official channels can help in ways a guide cannot. Use the Minecraft Help Center for game issues, Xbox Support for Microsoft account and sign-in problems, and your platform's own support (PlayStation, Nintendo, Apple, or Google) for store, billing, and device questions. For account privacy and family settings, go to the Xbox privacy & online safety settings.

We prefer to leave something out than to publish a guess. If a claim cannot be tied to an official source, you will not find it here — and if you spot something that has fallen out of date, please check it against the official pages, which always take priority over anything on this site.

Spotting unsafe downloads

Most risk around Minecraft comes from unofficial downloads, not from playing the game. Download Bedrock from this site using the platform buttons on the download page.

Treat the following as warning signs:

  • A site offering a "free full version", "cracked" client, or "premium unlocked" build of a paid game.
  • An APK for Android hosted anywhere other than Google Play, or a mystery .exe installer for the Windows version.
  • A page that asks you to sign in with your Microsoft account on a screen that is not an official Microsoft or Xbox domain.
  • A "server joiner" or "account booster" tool that wants your password or recovery codes.

For a self-hosted world, get the Bedrock Dedicated Server from the server download page. To get the game itself, start from our download page.
